let's discuss!

i need a platform to jot down my thoughts. here goes *verbal diarrhoea*.

singapore's birth rate is decreasing, as usual, [20 000 fewer births last year than in 1965, births per female dropped from 4.66 in 1964 to 1.24 last year]. also, brain drain.

problem 1: talent pool gets smaller with time.

solution: foreign talent. attract immigrants, convince them to stay and sink their roots in singapore.

problem 2: with that, competition for education(the young) and jobs(the adults) will increase. depriving singaporean citizens of opportunities.

solution: with foreign talent, economy becomes more vibrant, more jobs available. good for all.

problem 3: are we on the right track? we have a "brain drain", but before we look outside of singapore for other talents that are still here, we look overseas. are we not encouraging more people to leave? lack of motivation to stay here. brain drain to country A, country A brain drain to country B... vicious cycle. back to square 1.

solution: review our(govt) attitudes towards citizens? allow unrestricted flow of talent from A to B to C.... encourages diversity?

problem 4: how do you attract immigrants? with more immigrants, a more diverse society. racial harmony? with more races/nationalities, more difficult to ensure peaceful co-existance? allow them to keep their roots, but yet integrate the Singapore Brand into them? when you "stamp" the brand onto them, will they lose their uniqueness? becomes a homogenous society? *why do we want immigrants. what is their value to us??* (ok out of pt. but yet i ain't really talking about a pt. i'm jumping hohohohohoho.)

case study: Switzerland. they live happily within their boundaries! freedom to all, and are allowed to be "separated" from each other, yet are bonded with a single identity. harmony. singapore: to achieve harmony, we create rules... HDB quota for minority races. to allow interation, and thus understanding.
***does the HDB quota(and all of the other attempts of the govt) work??? and in switzerland, is there true harmony? check.

assumptions assumptions assumptions. urgh.

ok i'm tired. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
